Last night I attended Shabbat services at Romemu for the first time. I have read a certain other scathing review for this congregation and couldn’t disagree more. Last night I found the most spirited, united, and passionate community of Jews I’ve ever known. Every prayer turned into a nigun with everyone singing, clapping, and dancing around the temple (or church). But do not think that Romemu is just some new-age nonsense that doesn’t take Judaism seriously. We prayed, we said the kaddish for loved ones we’ve lost, and found solace in each other after the events of last weekend. Romemu is not supposed to be traditional, it is a non-denominal congregation where Jews of all backgrounds feel welcome, and seeing people so moved by the prayers that they were compelled to sing and dance was a testament to the ability of the Jewish community to remain united and hopeful even in the most difficult times. The rabbi also was eloquent and entertaining and clearly beloved by the congregation. It’s been 10 years since I’d gone to Shabbat services, and I look forward to going back to Romemu every week.

A haven refuge sanctuary for wanderers and seekers who can bask in the emitted light and vibration (sound, movement, positive learning), online or in person, young or seasoned, even if you’re on your way somewhere else like I was

Had a good feeling going in. It was a large service for the space; the largest, apparently, in the last couple years. It was good but it seemed like, especially in the beginning, I was moreso watching a performance rather than participating in prayer--they also have a production team so, you know...didn't feel communal really. The rabbi interspersed the prayers with a few vaguely mystical things; he mentioned in the announcements about Buddhism so I approached the rabbi after the service to discuss, but it didn't seem like he wanted to really talk to me, which seemed very perverse for a Rabbi. Although, on the surface, Romemu presents itself as a center of New Jewish Spirituality, there is something weirdly manufactured and corporate about the whole thing. A "false school", seems like a place you could easily get sucked into. I wouldn't suggest you do.

I recently went for my first time. Romemu is a wonderful synagogue that is part of the renewal movement. The music was captivating, the prayer book is extremely meaningful, and the regular congregants are warm and welcoming. I will definitely go again. I will say that if you are looking for a Conservative or Orthodox service, perhaps you might want to try a more traditional synagogue.

A place where you can feel comfort when you think you might not. A friendly environment with vibrant music. It makes you want to frolic around the church. A diverse and welcoming crowd. I will be back.

Great Jewish programs, spiritual study, and Hebrew school. Spiritually avant-garde and spiritually sensitive. I love Nili's "Living Deeply with a Sacred Text" course. (Note: This building houses offices and programs; religious services are held elsewhere. Building is not wheelchair-accessible.)

My home away from home. Thank you to Rabbi David Ingber and Rabbi Mira Rivera, and everyone who attends services at Romemu. A love-and-joy-filled House of Worship.
